I want to share how much we love these activity cards on 2D shapes that I made last year so Vito and I can practice identifying the shapes of objects that he gets to see almost everyday. As I mentioned in my Instagram post, before working on these cards, we first looked around the house for objects with shapes of square, triangle, oval, rectangle, and circle. Then at times, we also play I spy games on shapes and objects, and other times it’s more of “give me something that has a shape of … “. We had fun doing this!
Alternatively, we would work on the cards (to avoid monotony) which Vito totally loves! We used glass gems but you can also use pegs, or markers if you laminate your cards. They are absolutely gorgeous! More details on the cards here.
Now, the 2D learning pack comes with 2 activity cards set. So the first one is identifying the shape of the object, and the other activity is identifying the shape being asked in the card. A preview of the second set is shown in the image below. So I have four common objects in the card and the question asks for an object with a shape of a triangle. Here, the child will learn how to relate an abstract shape like triangle to the picture of a real-life object. To know more about this product, click here.
If you're child is learning about 3D objects you might want to check this other activity, Montessori Geometric Solids as a Sensorial Material.
This really helped me! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
