To fully demonstrate this, we performed a simple water cycle experiment. Mavi and I have done this years ago so it was exciting to do it again for Vito. This experiment is so simple and requires minimal preparation. I highly recommend this. For details on how to perform this, click here (Water Cycle: All about Water).
As an extension, we worked on these sorting cards to learn more about the properties of water. I have pictures of water in the form of solid: ice, icicles, snow and hail; liquid: drinking water, ocean, river and rain; gas: steam and clouds.
Here are some tips when using the cards:
- Talk about each picture as you sort them out according to their properties
- What makes it solid? liquid? and gas?
- Provide real life examples like ice for solid, water for liquid and a humidifier/diffuser for gas
- Allow the child to touch/smell and observe the samples provided and ask the difference of each object/sample
I am happy to share with you our sorting cards so you can try this in your home and at school!
