The boys are still giddy of doing this themed-activities weekly, and yes even Mavi loves it as he gets to join us from time to time.
We're seeing A LOT of nests in the neighborhood because the trees are still bare, so this has got me thinking of making a bird's nest at home. I told the boys all about it, and they were so excited! There are so many versions of this if you searched in the web: the yarn, shredded newspaper… but I wanted to try the spaghetti as I have some that are about to expire. (this idea was inspired by Let’s Tot School)

First, break the spaghetti into small lengths. The lengths should not be too long or you will find it hard to form the nest in a bowl, an inch or less would be perfect. Vito and I worked on this together. I showed him how I snapped the spaghetti in groups, while he loves doing it by singles. Fine motor skills, check!
Now, in a ziploc or plastic container, combine glue and coloured paint. I divided my noodles into three colour mixtures: I made (green, blue and red). Vito helped me coat the noodles by shaking the plastic.
I took a small bowl, covered it with a parchment paper so my noodles won’t stick in the bowl’s surface. I took out all the noodles from the plastic and started forming my nest. I asked Vito to join me but he didn’t like the sticky texture of the noodles! What’s wrong with kids these days? They’re so scared of getting their hands sticky and dirty! LOL.
I let it dry overnight. When the nest was completely dry, Vito was fascinated! He gladly decorated the nest with chicks and Cadbury mini-eggs. It turned out awesome! We later showed it to Mavi who was like “can we do it again with me?”.
This is such a fun and awesome project for kids! We should try the cooked noodles next time!
