Vito is 29 months old. This activity was inspired by Simply Learning.
You can find lots of Earth worms under the ground! The main idea here is to search and collect all the Earth worms under the ground (oatmeal) using a magnetic wand. Fun activity for kids that both siblings can enjoy!
Materials needed:
- oatmeal
- tub or storage box
- magnetic wand (ours were from Learning Resources – Amazon)
- pipecleaners (as worms)
Fill the tub with oatmeal. Cut out small sizes of pipecleaners and twirl it to form as worms.
Once the “Earth worms” were hidden in the oatmeal, let your kids dig the oatmeal using magnetic wands. So look who couldn’t wait! They kept on digging and digging and they were too ecstatic everytime they catch a worm in ther wands. So easy to set up and both of my boys had a great time playing with this! A perfect opportunity for them to bond and play together. We will definitely do this again!
Vito was amazed by the magnets! He keeps on putting the worm pipe cleaners back into the tub and collecting them again. At his age, he can’t grasp the concept of magnetism yet, but I just kept on mentioning the word “magnet” whenever we play with the wands and worms so he can be familiar with the word.
More Earth Day activities coming up!
