Our first activity for this week for the Fish Theme! We love this Hooray for Fish book so much! I say this is one of the best books I’ve read for toddlers. The images are so colorful, bold and it contains some silly stuff like numbered fish, big and small fish, fish with different patterns etc. This is the reason why it is perfect for our unit this week!
After reading the book, I asked the boys to picked their favourite fish so we can try making them. We used our cardstock, contact paper and paints to create patterns first. To do this, cover portions of your cardstock with contact paper, this is in accordance to your design. Then allow your child to paint freely on the cardstock. Fingerpainting would do, but I made Vito use our rollers.
Once the paint had dried, I peeled off the contact paper and this is how it looks like. Vito tried peeling off some of it as well and you can see some part of the paper peeled off. Since Vito couldn’t draw a fish yet, I made the fish for him.
This is how it turned out! I used red paint to outline the fish, and added googly eyes.
Here’s Mavi’s work.
I highly recommend the book Hooray for Fish. Look at the text and images, they’re captivating! Your kids will surely love it! Check my list of materials for the Fish theme here and the resources used in this activity.
