Sometimes, the tools that Im looking for are not available on line or in stores so I made them myself. I used to have a lot of time for making our own materials but with Vito and the increase of responsibilities at home, I can barely print my activities. So my aim these days is to make materials that are simple and easy to assemble. Here are the materials that are easy to make even without the use of a printer!
For our cutting activity:
- Cut out strips of paper using coloured cardstocks. I like using coloured cardstocks because I make Vito identify the colours as well
- I wrote the shapes in the strips. Its faster when I write them down than assembling them in Word Office! I used a Sharpie for this.
- Each strip has a different shape. The shapes are mostly those Vito can’t identify yet like crescent, diamond and rectangle (still calls it square)
For our puzzle activity:
- We have shape puzzles from Melissa and Doug but I wanted to give him a 2piece puzzle activity that he currently enjoys.
- Using a black cardstock, cut out different shapes like circle, square, triangle, star, diamond etc
- Glue them in a white cardstock. Laminate.
- Cut out the cards.
- Cut each card according to the puzzle pieces you want. Vito is 2 years old and the 2 piece puzzle of this activity is quite challenging but he’s able to accomplish them. So it’s up to you and your child’s capabilities. I might cut these cards again for a 3 or 4piece puzzle in the future.
Hope this will give you an idea of activities that are so simple and easy to set-up, and won’t leave you broke!
Goodluck!
