First, I made Mavi plot the landmark figures (Safari Toob World Landmarks and Around the World Toob) into our Montessori Continent Puzzle. He was unfamiliar with a few statistics, like the Easter Island Statue, Mount Rushmore, Parthenon, and the Burj Al Arab. Note that the formation of Burj Al Arab was given to me as a gift from a friend who works in Dubai.
Next, I took out our landmark cards. It’s the 3 part cards of the landmarks from my shop, and I only made him use the pictures and label cards. The main objective here is to match the figures to the picture cards and identify the names of the structures.
Here’s a closer look at the cards. I printed them on heavy-weight paper and laminated them. He was happy to see the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty!
He asked if we could see Mount Rushmore if we ever returned to the US. See the Burj Al Arab figure? It’s so beautiful!
Okay, so here’s what they look like. I also made the description cards, punched a hole, and bound them together for reading purposes.
It was a fantastic opportunity to review his geography! I’ll give him some activity sheets to follow up on this hands-on activity.
