Vito is 30 months old.
We’ve just concluded our week long transportation-themed activities and I would like to share with you the activities and materials Vito loved and enjoyed using! Hope you find these helpful!
Themed-Activity Shelf. We have this small shelf in one corner and I dedicate this to our weekly themes alone. The other is for our daily work trays like letter, number and fine motor skills activity.
TOP SHELF: Books, car figures, transportation figures from Safari Toobs which are sorted to air, water and road, Stick N Stack tiles
MIDDLE SHELF: Guidecraft Stacking Pyramid (Vito is using these as buildings), counters and bowls
LOWER SHELF: waterbeads storage, sorting tray, puzzles and printed materials which are in the trays
I like keeping our shelf simple and not overcrowd it with materials.
Colour Sorting Activity. We are using Learning Resources Mini Motor Counters, and their sorting bowls. We did this activity with a twist, instead of just placing the counters in the bowl, he needs to drop them on the bowl just like a person doing skydiving. It was Vito who actually wants to drop it as he finds it funny and maybe more fun to him! As you may notice, I added orange and violet colours in colour recognition activities. I wanted to expose him more to other colours now that he knows the basic four: red, yellow, green and blue.
Sensory Bottle. I have these tiny bottles and I decided to make those sensory bottles similar to other blogger Moms to demonstrate water, land and sky vehicles. Vito was so curious of these! He kept on staring at them, shake them and loves playing around the sky bottle! During my presentation, I told him that planes fly in the sky, ship is in the water and that cars and trucks are travelling in-land.
Sensorial Ocean Tub. This is to introduce vehicles in the water. More about it here.
Design your own Vehicle. We are using the amazing Stick N Stack magnet tiles and the boys were glued with this! I talked about it here.
Fine Motor Skills. To practice fine motor skills, I prepared this for a pin punching activity. The giant pin were from Amazon and the bus and plane are homemade materials (print an image, laminate and punch holes).
I sourced out this beautiful truck with dots from Gift of Curiosity.
Literacy. I made this A to Z Vehicle Cards so we can review our letters and match our Safari Toob figures (air, water and road). Get it here!
Road Vehicles. An invitation to play activity, wherein I just placed the materials in a tray and allow the boys to make their own landscape with cars and trucks on it. It allowed them to practice their creativity and they were able to play with it together with no fuss! More of it here.
Books. I always integrate books in our activities. I think that’s one of the reason why the boys grow up loving books. So know about our top picks for learning about vehicles, check out our recommended books here!
