This was a simple and easy to setup activity for Vito. Looks simple but he loves doing this over and over again!
The purpose of this activity is for Vito to use a tong or tweezer in transferring sea/ocean creatures into and out of the water.
I filled up our glass bowl with water and a little bit of food colouring (blue for ocean) and prepared some sea animal figures. The figures were from Safari Toob Coral Reef, Safari Toob Sharks, Safari Toob Ocean and Fish Counters. The tweezer is from a craft store but you can also purchase it from here.
As soon as Vito saw this, he immediately worked on it! As you can see he uses both of his left and right hand to manipulate the tweezer. It’s also a great opportunity to improve his hand-eye coordination.
Once he’s done, he returns back all the animal figures into the crystal glass and put them back again in the water in the same process. Bonus is that, he’s counting the figures on his own! It’s not a perfect one-to-one correspondence yet but at least he gets to practice counting numbers 1 to 20.
This entertained him while I was cooking and folding the laundry. It’s a great way to keep the kids engaged, have fun and learn at the same time!
