Vito is 34 months old.
My youngest is not really the artistic type. But even though he’s not into painting crafty things, I make sure that these art materials are always available just in case they feel like doing some artistic pursuits. So imagine my delight when he decided to join me with this autumn trees painting activity.
I borrowed this book from the library (Tree: Seasons Come, Seasons Go) and we totally fell in love with it! It’s an interactive book about the tree shown in the cover and how it changes from season to season. The book also showed the animals that thrive in each season. The illustrations are realistic but cute.
Now, back to painting. So with a little bit of inspiration, Vito and I decided to make the tree similar to the book using corks (thank you Pinterest!). I made the tree trunk ahead of time so he can just stamp the autumn colours right away.
Speaking of colours, we used orange, red, yellow and green paints for the leaves. While he stamps, I explained that some trees are “new” and some are “old” (he can’t grasp the concept of wilting yet) thus some leaves changes colours.
He was carefully stamping, making sure the paint doesn’t smudge but I told him to stamp all the way and be messy! LOL.
He kept on saying “stamp stamp stamp” as he worked. Now look at the result! It was surprisingly gorgeous! He was so happy and proud of his work that he showed it right away to the Daddy once he arrived.
We had fun! It’s nice to encourage them to explore their artistic side once in a while, even if they’re just 2 years old.

What a great idea!!! I have a big basket of wine corks in my kitchen and never thought to use them as a painting medium! I loved this idea so much that I featured it on my recent blog post: https://www.nurturingfamilyandself.com/25-fun-and-easy-fall-crafts-for-toddlers/ My daughter will love stamping the wine cork on the paper.
