My boys love Goodnight Moon (Amazon US) (Book Depository) and we have read it numerous times already. You can see our previous activity of the book from here, Goodnight Moon Storytelling Basket. Now that Vito is a lot older, I assembled these activity trays for him to work on as a book extension. I don’t have a guide for Before FIAR, so all of these activities are either sourced from the internet or invented by yours truly.
Note: All of the printables here are homemade and you can find them in my shop:

Reading Comprehension
I read the book and then I asked Vito to find the objects in the cards that were mentioned in the story. This was instant hit! We’ve been doing this everyday for three days now and Vito doesn’t seem to get tired of it. Our next try of this would be ordering the objects according to their “appearance” in the story.
Math and Color Sorting
This is Vito’s favourite counting activity as of the moment, our Bedtime Themed Counting Mats. We are using yellow glass nuggets as our counter to represent the star.
Another math work is this bear counting with matching colors. I am using chalk markers to indicate the number of bears to be placed in the mats. You can also use sticker or any dry erase pen if you want to try this. The bear counters are from Learning Resources (Bear Family Counter Set - Rainbow Set of 96).
This is Vito matching lowercase with the uppercase letters. I placed Velcro tapes to secure the cards.
And I realized that this activity also serves as a practical life activity for peeling off cards from the adhesive (Velcro tape). Vito enjoyed peeling off the cards as he counts!
Practical Life
Cutting strips for Goodnight Moon!
I added these routine cards for discussing bedtime activities with Vito. We also ordered the activities by putting numbers on it. This is a great way to introduce the concept of ordinal numbers or number sequencing!
Science
Of course, it has to be about the moon! So I made these Phases of the Moon materials (included in the Early Literacy Pack) for Vito. The materials I made for him are suitable for early childhood, nomenclature cards and a control sheet for presentation. We haven’t worked this one yet because we’ll be doing this with Mavi (elementary level). (I made the Earth and Moon felt models ages ago)
We also went out last week to see the moon. It was a great experience for the boys being out there in the cold observing the night and moonlight.
