Vito is 34 months old.
It’s that time of the year when my kids get to see a lot of human skeletons hanging everywhere! No wonder October is the best time to introduce the human skeleton to your kids. Vito is in the “what’s that” stage and he’s been asking me a lot of questions lately about these “funny” costumes and the hanging bones. So I gathered a few old and new learning materials for him so I can introduce these amazing body system.
The book that we are using is the The Body from My First Discovery Book (Bookdepository). So far, this is the BEST book I can recommend for kids from 2.5 years and older. Just like in all of My First Discovery Book series, it has beautiful illustrations and interactive acetate page to keep little ones engaged. Both of my boys love this, as it also illustrates how the baby is formed (from a cell to fetus, to newborn) which Mavi is very interested of.
Now for the puzzle, we have Hape Your Body 5-Layer Wooden Puzzle Boy. The puzzle itself is anatomically incorrect due to the placement of skeleton being on the last layer. With Mavi, he just shrugged the error off, and with Vito he isn’t aware of it yet. He just loves forming the layered puzzles! I have yet to figure out how to deal with the error once he’s in the right age to understand the concept.
I have no place for this glow in the dark skeleton which Mavi brought from school, so I just placed it in the meantime in the hallway for Vito to explore. He loves it and as you can see, he loves manipulating the skeleton making it dance to his pleasure!
I have another skeleton hanging decor which I bought years ago (around 3 years already). I used this for Mavi’s skeletal system lesson but one arm was dislocated and I can’t find it anywhere in the storage. Vito loves the skull area as he can open and close the mouth.
And again, he’s making the skeleton dance. Yes, this boy… actually both of my boys LOVE TO DANCE AND SING but I just don’t write about it though LOL.
And we also tried to make XRAY prints! Saw this from Simply Learning and I love the idea. Materials needed: white paint, brush and black craft paper.
Yay!!
And of course! We tried to recreate those “skeletons in the dark” kind of thing. I used a yellow highlighting pen and ultraviolet torch for this. Mavi said we could try a dancing skeleton too with their hands. The kids were fascinated!
So what do you think?
