Thank goodness January is almost over! I really don’t like January, it’s that time of the year where we get to experience the worst weather condition. Fortunately, we have fair weather this year, it’s actually warm! But, I am so looking forward to spring now, and I can’t wait for all these gloomy days to be over. And speaking of spring, this month, I’ll start adding “spring” activities into our homeschool activities. We will be using traditional Montessori materials for most part and in some, we’ll have themed activities. Hope you like what I prepared for Vito for this month.
LANGUAGE
Sorting beginning letters. In my Instagram, I talked about how Vito is not distracted with using printed materials as our medium for sorting beginning letter sounds. With this, we will focus on using printed pictures instead of objects (though of course we will still use objects from time to time). So for the month of February we will work on letters POLH-CUSN. The Montessori Lower Case Sandpaper Letters with Box is from Amazon. The pictures can be found in a printable, Alphabet Letter Sound Books and Activity Sheets from my shop.
Beginning reading with CVC 3 Part Cards. I made these cards for Vito, and we’ll start working on cvc words. We’ll start with 3 lesson period using 3 part cards and eventually move to Montessori pink series once he is reading. The CVC 3 Part cards are from my shop. You can either get the Montessori CVC Reading Cards BUNDLE PACK or the individual per vowel pack:
- Montessori CVC Reading Cards Vowel A
- Montessori CVC Reading Cards Vowel E
- Montessori CVC Reading Cards Vowel I
- Montessori CVC Reading Cards Vowel O
- Montessori CVC Reading Cards Vowel U
Writing practise. We will still continue using rice tray with letters CUSN-POLH, then focus more on tracing lines. Vito loves tracing lines (and drawing!) so we will have more of these in February.
SENSORIAL
Pink Tower. Vito can actually work on the pink tower independently now, so we’ll explore extension work for the weeks to come. Most of my Montessori materials are from our local shop, but you can purchase this at Tower High Learning (UK), Absorbent Minds UK, Amazon and in any Montessori shop.
Binomial Cube. Something new! Mavi loved this Binomial Cube and hopefully Vito can figure this out as well! For Vito we will be using this material for a sensorial type of activity.
Montessori Color Tablets. We’ll be exploring colors this month thus we are revisiting our Montessori color tablets 2 and learn about Montessori color tablets 3!
MATH
Number Rods. We’ll take a break from using Montessori beads and explore number rods in February.
Ten Frames. Vito’s quite bored with “cards and counters” activities so I’ll bring back the ten frames activity using Dino Counters from Learning Resources.
Shapes. We’ll explore 2D shapes this month, sorting using Miniland Abacus with Shapes, Pattern Block Activity Pack, tracing shapes using Melissa & Doug Large Shapes Jumbo Knob Wooden Puzzle and creating shapes using sticks.
CULTURE AND SCIENCE
Asia. I’ll setup a simple Asia Continent Study just because we are from Asia and our families are there. I will align it to Vito’s age, so let’s see what I’ll come up with. But definitely, we’ll have Asian animals in the list! Animal figures here are from Shleich and Papo. If you are looking for some printables that you can use in your Asia lessons I have a couple of learning materials in my shop: ASIA in a Nutshell, Animals of Asia, Landmarks of Asia, Flags of Asia, and Asian Cuisine.
Flowers. This will be a post-Valentines Day activity. We’ll make use of our Safari Toob Flowers, these are gorgeous! More on this soon. What you see here are the Parts of a Flower nomenclature cards and Flower Cards (3 Part Cards) which I made for Vito and a Montessori flower puzzle.
Dinosaurs. If we still have time, we’ll do work on dinosaurs as well. Vito loves to play with Mavi’s dinosaur toys together with his Bruder trucks, so I want this to be included in February’s activities. The book is from Amazon, Dinosaur My First Discovery. This is a perfect book for toddler and preschoolers who are starting to learn and to explore these extinct animals.
BOOKS
We’ll be focusing on these books in February and will do simple activities/extensions to go along with them.
