I am so excited to share our April activities! We will be revisiting some activities we did in the past, and there are new ones too! I only prepared a few activities for April because (1) we still have to work on Earth Science activity trays (2) it’s Mavi’s Easter vacation so Vito would probably prefer to play with his brother than “home” school with Mommy and lastly (3) weather permits, we’ll be spending most of our days outdoors or do some field trips here or there. Anyway, just to be sure that I have something for Vito to work on in case we needed to stay home, here are some preschool activities for him!
LANGUAGE
Phonic Games. Vito enjoyed this method of learning letter sounds so we will continue this for the entire month of April. We will be working on letters we barely touched like X, Y, Z, D and E. Together with this, we will also continue our writing practise using our mats, sandpaper letters and plastic insets.
I will also reintroduce our BINGO game, and see if he would enjoy it as much as he did last time.
CVC Cards. My ultimate goal for the next two months is for Vito to master his phonics, but then I also needed to introduce CVC words occasionally to expose him to reading.
MATH
Different Number Symbols. Lately, Vito is into counting using his fingers (Mavi taught him), so I made these cards for him as a guide. We’ll be learning different forms of numbers in quantity next month, similar work like this one.
Sequin Board Teens Board. Vito knows his numbers 1 to 10, and is showing signs that he’s ready for the teens. I hope this Montessori Seguin Board will help him through the 2 digits number counting!
SENSORIAL
Stereognostic Bag. Got this early this year but haven’t used it yet. I think Vito’s going to like this one as he loves all our Montessori sensorial activities!
Binomial Cube. I wanted to introduce this last February but because Vito has other interest (obsessed with pink tower), I just have to shelve this one. Hopefully, we’ll be able to work on this as he’s been eyeing this for awhile now.
CULTURE/SCIENCE
All About Birds. We are seeing and hearing birds now so I guess April is the best time to have a bird study unit! The structure of this one will be similar to our Penguin Unit, simple but meaningful to the child. Seen in the picture are two of my favourite bird books for preschoolers: About Birds by Cathryn Sill and Birds My First Discovery Book.
The Planets. My son discovered my planets figures and has been asking to “play” with it. He’s always asking me the names of the planets (“Mom, what’s this?”) and it would be nice to have a sit down activity with him, do some simple activities about planets just to feed his interest. The cards are from Usborne Fact Cards and the figures are from Safari Toobs.
BOOKS
I decided to continue Five in a Row with Vito as he loves reading books, just like Mavi. He’s enjoying our Before Five in a Row so far (Harold and the Purple Crayon, Caps for Sale) and we’ll do at most two books for April (The Carrot Seed and Yellow Ball). Again, just like our previous B4FIAR, simple and spontaneous activities will suffice.
12 MONTHS MORE OF MONTESSORI
Practical Life is the theme for April and I’m thinking of having a post on DIYs and tools. I can’t wait to share our practical life post for you! In the meantime, checkout our past themes for the 12 Months More of Montessori:
Seen in the picture are figures from Safari Toobs, and my goodness, the boys love these!!
