This holy week, Mavi revisited ancient Egypt after rereading the Ten Commandments story. We dug up our Egypt Picture Book materials so he could work on some readings and do some activities to follow them. In this post, I will share the contents of our Egypt Picture Book learning pack, which you might want to try. It contains reading materials, activity pages, picture cards and outline cards for colouring.
THE READING MATERIAL
This is how it looked on the inside. A significant illustration of some critical concepts about ancient Egypt and a brief description. For older kids, this is independent reading material. The reports are about 4-5 sentences and are easy to read.
THE ACTIVITY PAGES
This is an outline version of the reading material. The main objective here is for the child to recreate his own booklet, using his own words on what he understands after reading the reading material. Mavi loves colouring the pages in this book.
THE LEARNING CARDS
So aside from the reading materials and activity pages, I also included learning cards mainly for non-readers. We own Safari Toob Ancient Egypt, so Vito used the cards in a matching activity. Note that this activity was supposedly for Mavi, but since Vito insisted on joining along, I also prepared some activities for him suited for his age.
The cards are outlined for young children to colour and form as a mini booklet. When he saw Mavi working on the activity pages, Vito used these colouring cards.
Mavi worked on his activity pages (booklet) the entire time while Vito worked on some hands-on like wrapping dolls to create a mummy.
Ancient Egypt gave birth to parchments, paper and weaving, so we practised how to weave!
And for the final note, Mavi once again explored our Maps book. We love this book, and we always use it whenever we try to learn about specific countries. This perfectly compliments our Picture Book!
