One of the things I love to do is putting some twist on our activities to keep them more engaging and fun for Vito. Last month, he began reading the time, with Mavi modelling the reading. Every morning he would wake me up and say “Mom, it’s 8 o’clock” and when I checked it is indeed 8 in the morning! He finally figured out how to read the clock with the small hand pointing to a number and the longer hand on the 12. So I grabbed the opportunity to practise clock reading with this penguin clock and time matching printable. I used this activity with Mavi 5 years ago and now Vito is loving it as well!
Vito’s favourite animal is the penguin, so I used this animal for our cards. You can do the same with your kids, use their favourite object or animal when you want to introduce an activity to catch their attention. Note, it still has to be a child-led activity, meaning it should still be in line with their current interest. Or if you are a teacher, this activity is also perfect in a classroom setting as it can be used independently.
So here’s what you can do, setup a few cards if this is your child’s first time to work. I highly recommend providing a learning clock. Why? Because your child would want to calibrate it to the time written in the cards. Vito loved setting up the time, making sure it matches with the card. And see the the digital time you see in the small window of the clock? That’s our control of error. With that, Vito can check if he’s matching the analog clock correctly to the penguin card. These beautiful cards (Penguin Themed Matching Clocks to Time Activity Cards) are available in our shop. You will also find the rest of the details here or click the image below.
Here you will see him pick a clock card, and calibrate his learning clock to match to the card.
Then he would match the clock card to the penguin time card. By the way, you can add Velcro tape to the cards so it will snap together after you laminate.
It was pretty amazing seeing him work (with me getting a bit distracting due to taking of pictures LOL), but yeah he worked on this on his own! The original plan was to work on a few cards, but look! He worked on all 12 cards!
Hope you like this, enjoy!
