Materials needed:
- cut-out leaves or punched leaves (we are using this maple leaf puncher)
- playdough (alternative)
- colored cardstocks
- Fall Leaves Counting Mats
- Do a Dot Markers
- Leaf Stickers
Once we had enough leaves for the activity, I told Vito we would place the exact number of leaves on the mats based on the number written on them. He immediately put the leaves and said, "I love this, Mommy! I'm like Fletcher!"
He immediately connected the activity to the book we read days ago, Fletcher and the Falling Leaves. The book is about a young fox (Fletcher) who doesn't want to let go of the leaves of his favorite tree.
This activity aims to develop fine motor skills through punching leaves from colored cardstock and the skill of counting for children.
Alternatively, you can also use playdough if you don't have a maple leaf puncher.
You can also use colored chips or glass nuggets.
And if you want to save ink, you can print our printable's black and white version instead and use the do-a-dot marker.
This single learning pack has so many uses! Not to mention all the fun your child/student can get from counting.
