Here are the books that my kids enjoy reading:
A First Book of Nature. Full of beautiful illustrations! It gives us a poetic description of all the icons and objects that we see and experience in every season.
Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn. A lovely book about the changes of the season from Summer to Autumn. A very good introductory book about autumn.
Tree: A Peek-Through Picture Book. About the journey of a tree from winter to spring, summer to fall and back to winter again. We also get to see how the animals adapt to this change.
We Gather Together. This is for older kids and a good book for understanding the different practices around the world during autumn (and why it is the harvest season).
Why Do Leaves Change Color?. The boys read this book with me and it is a learning book about leaves changing colors.
How to Make Apple Pie and Travel the World. Vito’s favorite! He loves the story of the little girl travelling to make an apple pie. A good companion for a geography lesson too.
Fletcher and the Falling Leaves. Oh such a heart warming story about the change in season and about letting go. Vito loves this too!
Cranberry Thanksgiving. This is my eldest son’s favorite and a fun story about a family secret recipe!
It Was a Cold Dark Night. A book we had since Vito was 3 and because he loved this hedgehog so much, I just need to include this.
Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf. A very good book about maple trees and how its leaves changes to beautiful colors in autumn.
Hello Harvest Moon. See how the world is doing at night during the harvest moon! Perfect bedtime reading for the boys!
How Do Apples Grow? A learning book about apples, its life cycle and why autumn is an apple season.
Fall Leaves. Another beautiful book about change, thus the author always uses “leaves”, what leaves and what stays during seasons.
Autumn by Shirley Hughes. Oh full of beautiful poems about autumn. It illustrates typical family life during autumn, what the kids do, what’s happening in nature and all.
The Reasons for Seasons. Basically a non-fiction book of what causes seasons. I highly recommend this to older kids. It explains why some parts of the world have seasons and others have none.
Moon. We definitely have a thing about the moon in autumn LOL, and this is a good companion! It beautifully illustrates the phases of the moon and the busy-ness of night time animals around the world.
What about you, do you have some of the books that we have? What are your favourites?
As I mentioned earlier, this is a growing collection. We'll definitely update you with new ones next year, depending on the kids’ interest and favorites.
Pin this for later!
