Our winter addition clipcard set is basically designed to go along with our Montessori Addition Strip Board. It has addition facts from 1-9 and I also added 10s so those who are non-Montessori users can enjoy the clipcards as well. This is Vito working on our addition facts 1 and 2 using the Addition Strip Board.
The activity is straight forward, I presented the card, first addend is blue and second addend is red. To get the answer, the child will lay out the strip of cards corresponding to the equation. From here, he will be able to get the answer.
Use clothes pegs or craft pegs to mark your answers. I highly recommend that you work on this with your child starting from fact families 1 and then gradually introduce the next set to the child. Vito worked on these sets in one sitting so I need to print bigger numbers to add some challenge.
Of course, this is just one type of learning material that you can use with your child. Other hands-on methods using manipulatives are:
- using glass pebbles
- using snapcubes
- using numicon
- Montessori beads (Learning Multiplication Using Montessori Colored Bead Bars)
- using mini erasers
Below is Vito's activity using the addition clipcards and the Montessori colored beads.
Here Vito represented the equation using snapcubes, numicon and Montessori beads.
The learning material comes with recording math worksheets so the child can track the clipcards that he/she has worked on or just to record his/her answers. You can get these cards by clicking here or the picture below. Enjoy!
