Are you celebrating Chinese New Year? We are learning about this Chinese national holiday for familiarity and for the boys to understand that some Filipino traditions were adapted from Chinese culture.

Vito and I worked on a brief Chinese New Year Unit last week. The resources we used were from the Chinese New Year Mini Preschool Learning Pack I created for him years ago.

Chinese New Year Themed 3 Part Cards

These 3 part cards are mainly used for visual discrimination, learning of vocabulary words, and practice reading. Now that Vito can read, we are using the label cards, and I love how he works on blending the sounds to read and match them!

Chinese New Year Themed Beginning Letter Clipcards

These cards are used to learn phonics by identifying the beginning letter sounds of some Chinese icons and symbols (Chinese New Year).

Chinese Paper Lantern Color Matching

This is a fun color-matching activity using our pompoms! You can also use stickers, do-a-dot markers, glass gems (or any available manipulatives).

Picture Dough Mats for Fine Motor Skills

My Vito loves play dough, and the mats, which I always include in our preschool packs, are something he always looks forward to. This is a great activity for little hands, for strengthening hand muscles, and of course for sensorial too!

Chinese Lantern Shapes Spin and Cover

This is a shape-recognition activity with a spinner. Spin, identify the shape, and cover the matching lantern shape with any type of manipulative. For the spinner, use a pin or pencil and a paper clip.

Chinese Money Envelop Counting Clipcards

Count the gold coins in the Chinese money envelope and mark the correct number symbol. Vito enjoyed this activity a lot as he loves counting!

Chinese New Year Activity Book

This simple activity book contains essential information and pictures about the Chinese New Year. It is perfect for parents to read with their child (for reference), and activity sheets are also included for coloring and writing practice.
