Nothing beats hands-on learning, but because we have no access to tadpoles and frogs, we just rely on books, educational toys and create meaningful materials to achieve the "hands-on experience". With the success of our Water Cycle activities, I made a similar learning pack for our frog life cycle. The learning pack is perfect for kids ages 4 to 7 years old, something that will grow with your child through the years. It contains different activities for different stages of learning for the child. All you needed to do is print the one that suits your needs.
To begin with, here's our Life Cycle of a Frog learning pack. It contains tons of activities, designed for kids ages 4 to 7 years old. It contains learning opportunities like cutting, coloring, tracing and more.
To start learning about the life cycle, we have the right books. Age appropriate books engages the child and creates curiosity and enthusiasm to learn more. These are the books we are reading for the frog life cycle:
- From Tadpole to Frog (Let's-Read-and-Find-Out Science 1)
- About Amphibians: A Guide for Children
- Frogs (First Discovery Books)
- Nature Anatomy: The Curious Parts and Pieces of the Natural World
Once you have observe that your child is eager to learn more and keeps asking questions, you can start him/her activities from the learning pack, based on their needs. Below are the activities that you can expect from our learning material.
LIFE CYCLE OF A FROG DIAGRAM
It very important that we present to the child what a "life cycle" looks like by showing the diagram. This will give them an understanding that a cycle never ends as long as there's life. Vito asked me while we working on this activity, "what happens when the frog dies?" so I told him, that when it happens, the cycle for that frog ends.
In this activity, we cut the stages of the frog, and Vito glues them on an A3 cardstock paper so he can hang it in his room. This gave him the opportunity to recreate the cycle for retention and understanding. He also enjoyed the part related to making arrows which is a great extension on directing the sequence of the life cycle.
FROG LIFE CYCLE MATCHING WITH DEFINITION CARDS
Color, cut and paste! Included in our frog life cycle learning pack is the coloring version of the cycle. The student can also match these cards to the smaller mats.
I added this definition mat so parents can read the definition and the child can identify what stage it is. You can use the activity cards to match them to the mats or you can use life cycle figures as well.
FROG LIFE CYCLE SEQUENCING
As I mentioned earlier, I provided tons of activities to provide opportunities to all kinds of learners. There was a time when my eldest Mavi enjoyed cutting and gluing sequencing cards so I knew I needed to add this to the learning pack as well. This is a straight forward and simpler version of the previous activities.
MAKING BOOKLETS
And yes, booklets! Color, trace and assemble the booklets on your child's delight. They love making booklets, making the learning process more enjoyable and fulfilling!
