Vito is currently obsessed with our Let's Read and Find Out Series. I've started reading the level 1 series to him since April and he's hooked into it. There are tons of books in the level 1 series that he's currently obsessed with but one book stands out, What's for Lunch. The book introduces the basic food groups to children. I was totally surprised about his interest in this subject area. He's becoming curious of what he eats lately and drinking more milk than usual.
With this current interest, here are some activities we worked on to further expand his vocabulary about food and food groups. I also used this subject area to touch on math and fine motor skill activities.
Learning About Food and Nutrition: Food Groups Sorting
This is such a fun work for kids after introducing food groups. I made these printable foods instead of buying plastic toys as they are easier to store. These printable materials are part of our Nutrition Preschool Mini Pack. You can read about our activity on this here (Food Pyramid and Food Groups Activities for Kids).
Learning About Food and Nutrition: Food Triangle
What food group is the most important? This is basically the aim of our activity. To learn about how we worked on this one, click here (Food Pyramid and Food Groups Activities for Kids).
Learning About Food and Nutrition: Food Themed Teens and Tens
We are moving to addition and subtraction of golden beads soon so to conclude our teens and tens, I added this number cards so Vito can practice forming teens and tens using the Golden Beads.
Learning About Food and Nutrition: Food Plate
This is a cutting and sorting activity for Vito. I made this food plate so he can "plan" his meal using the food cut-outs as seen on the picture. You probably saw him doing this activity in my IG stories (you should follow me!). This food and nutrition learning material is part of our NUTRITION PRESCHOOL MINI PACK.Learning About Food and Nutrition: Patterning Blocks
The spin and build patterning blocks is one of his favorite game to play with me at home. We love taking turns spinning to complete the fruit and vegetable patterns in the sheets.
Learning About Food and Nutrition: Fruit or Vegetable?
We love Learning Resources fruits and vegetables and have used it tons of times. You can see some of the activities here. Here we used these to sort between fruits and vegetables. I used this to match our Fruits and Vegetable Cards as well.
Learning About Food and Nutrition: Weighing
This is a fun game of weighing! I've set out the primary bucket balance and Vito will balance it with fruit counters. You can get all of these materials from Learning Resources.
Learning About Food and Nutrition: Puzzle
I took out our Carrots Layered Puzzle for Vito to learn about the life cycle of a carrot (root-based vegetable) and paired it with a Vegetables book from My First Discovery Series. It was pretty enlightening on his part, to know that some vegetables are actually "roots" of a plant, not just the leaves of a plant which he's more familiar with.
Learning About Food and Nutrition: Picture Dough Mats
Of course, our dough mats are always present! He loves these mats to bits so I need to include them! You can get these from our NUTRITION PRESCHOOL MINI PACK.
And that's about it! If you are interested with our NUTRITION PRESCHOOL MINI PACK, click here or click the image below.
