Kids are always fascinated with the weather as this is something that they have experienced. Just by going outside and observing the sky, you can talk to your child about the weather, is it sunny? rainy? cloudy? windy? Sometimes they also get to watch this on TV or on the weather forecast news. Thus they become familiar with some words. To expand your child's curiosity about the weather and advance his/her knowledge, here are some activities that you might want to try.
WEATHER 3 PART CARDS
Introducing basic terminologies about the weather. We are doing something different this time. I made the 3 part cards in Filipino since the boys are eager to learn our native language. You can get these WEATHER 3 PART CARDS HERE.WEATHER ACTIVITY: TEMPERATURE READING
Weather is influenced by many factors and the temperature on Earth is one of them. In this activity I'm introducing the thermometer to Vito and how we use it to determine if something is hot or cold. For this activity you need different samples of water (in glass) with different temperatures. Use the thermometer to measure the temperature and identify whether it is hot or cold based on the readings you gathered. Also, you can use the thermometer to measure your body temperature and tell whether the child is sick or not.As an extension work, I gave this thermometer reading activity with skip counting by 5's. This printable is part of our Weather Mini Unit which you can purchase from the shop. This printable is available in our SHOP as part of the WEATHER THEMED PRESCHOOL MINI UNIT.
WEATHER ACTIVITY: PROPERTIES OF WATER
Because water plays a very important role in the weather, in this activity I'm introducing the three properties of water: solid, liquid and gas. This is a FREE PRINTABLE which you can download from here.WEATHER ACTIVITY: WATER CYCLE
A demonstration of water cycle using simple materials from the kitchen and extension work using our Water Cycle Lesson Pack from the shop. This PRINTABLE activity is available in the SHOP (WATER CYCLE Learning Pack).
WEATHER ACTIVITY: TYPES OF CLOUDS
Analyzing the shapes of clouds and what they mean. The Types of Clouds Montessori 3 part cards is available in our shop. The Types of Clouds 3 PART CARDS is available in the SHOP.
WEATHER ACTIVITY: CLOUD SHAPES
This is a fun activity on matching animal shaped clouds to the animal figures. Vito had a blast with this one! I made these cloud shapes as part of the WEATHER THEMED PRESCHOOL MINI UNIT which you can purchase from here.WEATHER ACTIVITY: EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS
During our vacation, the kids experienced thunder and lightning for the very first time. So here we explored other weather (extreme) conditions not just the typical rain and snow. The extreme Weather 3 Part Cards (doesn't include the puzzle in the picture) is available in our SHOP. The puzzle is included in the WEATHER THEMED PRESCHOOL MINI UNIT.
WEATHER ACTIVITY: WARM AND COOL COLORS
Integrating "weather" in arts. Sorting out colors whether they are in the warm or cold spectrum.WEATHER ACTIVITY: DRESS FOR THE SEASON
Love this "play" the fine motor and practical life activity that goes into it. And the color theory of warm and cool colors also applies in this activity! The objective of the activity is for the child to sort out clothes (by hanging them on the clothesline) according to the season using craft pegs.
This activity is part of WEATHER THEMED PRESCHOOL MINI UNIT.
And that's about it! Thank you for taking time to check on our post.
