PREVIEW
GARDEN TOOLS VOCABULARY
The 3 part cards and posters are meant to introduce different tools used in gardening, and the use of real items (or miniature) will help the kids expand their vocabulary.
COLOR SORTING
Color recognition activity for kids. Sort the flowers according to colors. This comes in printable form, or you can opt to use some sorting cups like in my set-up below. The thing is, you can always use the activity no matter how you like it and be creative enough to make it engaging to the kids. I'm sharing below an idea of making this simple color sorting activity engaging to little ones.
This is a play-pretend activity of flowers planted in the garden, and we will be sorting them according to the colors.
Here's another version of the activity:
PLANTING CARROTS
Identify the tally count in the cards and plant the same number of carrots in the mats. My son suggested adding play dough on the mats so the carrots will stick.
WORM COLLECTING
Your garden wouldn't be that healthy without worms! So here's another play pretend idea of collecting worms from a pile of soil. Use chocolate cookies or Oreo (what we used) as your soil, and place gummy worms.
This is a worm counting activity. Print the buckets from our pack, and collect the number of worms from the soil indicated in each bucket.
GARDEN VEGETABLE SHAPE SORTING
A simple shape sorting activity of vegetables.
Here's another version of the activity:
MEASURING GARDEN GNOMES
I remember growing seeing lots of gnomes in gardens. So I decided to include gnomes in our pack for measuring activity. Print, laminate and cut the cards. Use 2CM snap cubes to measure the length of the gnomes.
Then you and the kids can, later on, discuss the difference in sizing, identify the smallest, the biggest or order the sizes of gnomes.
GARDEN TOMATO LETTERS
Form the letters using playdough or any manipulatives available. I use our vegetable counter in this activity.
GARDENING VS NON-GARDENING ACTIVITIES
This is a FEED ME activity. Identify the pictures, whether it is about gardening or not, and sort them out. You can use empty boxes for this activity (for the mouth), but in our case, I used magnetic tiles, form it into a box and stick the mouth shrubs.
FLOWER GARDEN TEN FRAMES
Count the number of flowers in the picture and represent the count using ten frames and manipulatives. We are using Bauspiel Lucent in this activity.
