For Medieval Art, we made illuminated manuscript. This art project was inspired by the Book of Kells (Ireland), a famous artefact on display in Dublin. Book of Kells is an illuminated manuscript Gospel book in Latin created around 800AD.
RESOURCES
We read about castles and what's life during the medical period using the book we have from this history set. Then for our illuminated manuscript, we read Margueritte Makes a Book. This is such a lovely book about a girl helping her sick father finish an illustrated manuscript. The book tells you how Margueritte gathered all the necessary materials for the book, assembled all her paints, and eventually finished the work for her father.
ACTIVITIES
Vito and I saw this on Pinterest, and he chose to work on this instead of making illuminated letters on ordinary paper. So basically we cut out our initials and glued that on a piece of cardboard. We then added yarns for our decorations.
We covered the entire thing with foil and color it using Sharpies. Once dried we put some gem stickers for embellishments.
Here's how it turned out.
Next would be Renaissance Art and we'll start with other than Leonardo da Vinci!
