Around 4 to 6 months, when the baby can manipulate objects, it's a perfect time to give her all kinds of noise-making materials, including rattles, shakers and music boxes. As your child gets older, you can provide baby drums, a xylophone or even a lightweight metal cooking pot and spoon will do! Encourage your little ones to experiment with sounds by banging two objects together. These sounds may get in your nerves, but these early musical experiences teach the baby the laws of cause and effect and, at the same time, learning about rhythm.
If you are looking for some safe baby music in toys, here are some of our favourites!
XYLOPHONE
This is Max's current favourite. I recommend this for babies around 9-12 months.
Here are some of the baby friend xylophone I can recommend:
BABY DRUM
I absolutely love our baby drum! It is double-sided, one side with soft silicone and the other is made of wood. I'm happy that we can play and have options on which side to choose. The soft silicone side is for younger babies about 6 months; they can tap on it with their hands (drumstick can be dangerous at this time).
Here's are some recommended Montessori-friendly baby drums:
FLIP FINGERS PERCUSSION
This toy is highly recommended for babies from 9 months.
PERCUSSION FROG
My boy loves tapping these together, but our percussion frog is tiny, so I seldom give this to him. I've bigger versions like this one which can be used by babies around 8months.
SHAKERS and RATTLES
Highly recommended for babies from 4 months! Any rattles and shakers will do. Our music shakers were purchased from Holly and Oaks in the UK, and you will more details about them here.
