USA State Symbols Sorting Activities

I am so excited to share with you this resource material which was one of the most requested by my followers!  The USA State Symbols sorting activity promotes hands-on activity in learning the different state symbols in the United States of America.  

WHAT YOU WILL GET:

USA State Sorting Activity Set 1 features the symbols from the following USA States:

Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri

USA State Sorting Activity Set 2 features the symbols from the following USA States:

Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming

Each set contains the following:

• 25 sorting mats with HIGHLIGHTED MAPS with 6 symbol boxes
• 25 sorting mats with shape maps with 6 symbol boxes
• 9 state symbol tiles for each state. 
• control sheets/reference

Here are the sorting mats in 2 different styles:

Only six symbols can be sorted at a time, though I provided nine symbols for each state.  Pick your first six symbols to sort, and once the child has memorized this, you can introduce new ones from the remaining three.  For control of error, I like to put colored dots on the back of the tiles.  You can use dot stickers, or any markers (I used Sharpies).  You and your child can use this for checking or just for organizing.
