Here's a fun extension activity on the Animal Kingdom. Name and sort the animals according to their animal classification.
There are two ways you can sort the cards:
- Using labels (as shown above). Sort by aligning the cards vertically using the labels as the header.
- Using the mats (shown below). Sort by placing the cards on the respective mats.
This sorting pack comes in two sets:
- Colour-coded borders. This version is suitable for families and kids who prefer to have control of error.
- Black border/no colour coding. Use this if you prefer a generic colour border and a challenging way to sort out the animal pictures.
Here's how we use this at home:
After discussing the Animal Kingdom, we practised identifying different animals and sorting them according to their classification. I shuffled the cards and placed them in a basket. For the mats, I simply laid them out on the floor.
High-quality images are provided so the child can easily identify the animals and the sets come with or without labels.
The mats. The colours of the rugs match the picture cards' borders to control error. A brief description of the characteristics of animals belonging to that category is written at the bottom.
