After weeks and weeks of kids getting sick, one after another, I can finally say we are on the road to recovery! And with everyone finally feeling better and back to normal, I decided to whip some penguin-themed activity trays for Max, who is currently 31 months old
Sharing with you Max's activity trays for January. Here are some of the objectives I wanted to achieve for Max:
- To familiarize with penguins and animals in Antarctica
- 1:1 counting practice 1-5 (though he can recite up to 10)
- Identifying basic shapes from Montessori insets
- Learn the skill of measuring
- Enhance visual discrimination skills (shadow and tiny picture match)
- Sorting colors and recognizing patterns
- Fine motor practice
- Identify basic parts of a penguin
- Small world play/imaginative play
- Letter sounds, uppercase-lowercase matching
ANIMALS OF ANTARCTICA
We use the Antarctica Toobs and the Montessori 3 Part Cards (control cards only).
SHADOW MATCHING
The shadow matching cards are from Artic and Antarctic Preschool Unit.
WINTER-THEMED MATCHING MAGNIFYING ACTIVITY
The Winter Magnifying Matching Cards are available in my shop.
MEASURING PENGUINS
The shadow matching cards are from Artic and Antarctic Preschool Unit.
RECOGNIZING PATTERNS AND COLOR SORTING
The penguin counters ar from here and the patterns are homemade.
SORTING PENGUIN SHAPES
1:1 PENGUIN COUNTING
A simple 1:1 counting activity. Cards are homemade and we're using glass nuggets.
UPPERCASE-LOWERCASE MATCH
Max loves identifying letter sounds and big/small letters. So we're doing this simple matching activity just to satisfy his interest. We're currently working on the letters RAMFBITG. The penguin letter cards will be added to our Ultimate Collection of Number and Letter Cards BUNDLE.
POMPOM TRANSFER
SHELVES
Here's our shelves set-up
I use blue and white baskets to match our winter theme.
