Around 4 to 6 months, when the baby can manipulate objects, it's a perfect time to give her all kinds of noise-making materials, including rattles, shakers and music boxes. Encourage your little ones to experiment with sounds by banging two objects together. These sounds may get in your nerves, but these early musical experiences teach the baby the laws of cause and effect and, at the same time, learning about rhythm.
